RE: Its a mystery....

Hi Paul

My BW35 box is also incontinent, only I caught mine in the act.

When not in use the fluid creeps up the dipstick tube and over the top,
it then drips down onto the cooler pipes, exhaust and then the garage
floor. I don't know why it does it, I asked Tony Hart about it and he
knew all about the problem, I believe that he even spoke to Borg Warner
and they couldn't resolve the issue.

Apparently blocked breathers can contribute to the problem, the breather
runs from the top of the tail of the box and along the chassis rail. It
then feeds up the bulkhead, is clipped just above the brake servo and
the end dangles into the inner wing. It was, apparently, common practice
to clamp these as the gearbox will hold gears for longer.. Boy racers
huh..

It may well be worth having a chat with Tony about it because he
certainly seemed to have knowledge of the problem.

The (auto) gearbox of my (71) stag leaks fluid.

It's been checked twice by the (very competent) people who
regularly look
after the car and twice in the last 12 months by the (extremely
competent)
gearbox specialists who installed it for the previous owner.

The gasket has been replaced... a LOT.
The sump nuts are checked and tightened specially every service
and have
	non slip washers on them.

The banjo bolt/washers on the dipstick assembly have been
replaced -
	allegedly unnecessarily.
All seams and joins have been checked.

The thing is, it only does it when the car has been standing for
a week or
	more.
If the car is in regular daily use or on a run or a holiday,
there is
	absolutely no problem.

	Any ideas?
