water pump gear failure

daryl gatenby inquired about water pump gear and jack shaft wear. make sure
to check both the jack shaft end float/end play as well as the replaceable
bronze bushing located in the block that the water pump shaft slips into.
excess wear in either of these will cause gear wear.  there was some un
substantiated rumor about  a batch of water pumps that  had  manufacturing
defects in the shaft and gear. i know of no one  who actually experienced
this problem  but if any one on this list did i am sure they will respond
