Thermal Switch Question

All,

My Stag has what appears to be a thermal switch mounted in the left side
radiator tank, which I have always assumed was to control the electric
fans on the A/C installation (most of which is missing from my car...)
I thought it would be handy to use it to control the electric fan I've
installed, but it is apparently non-functional (I heated it well above
250 degrees F and it didn't switch). It has two contacts on it, and I
have not seen such a thing on any of the other Stags around here which
have A/C. Does anyone have any info on this switch, like a part number
or cross reference? Does anyone else have such a thing on their car?
It's got fairly large, coarse threads, (like 15/16ths diameter, or maybe
more - I wrote it down and don't have it with me), is located about
half-way down the tank, and doesn't look like anything I've seen on my
other cars. I looked in the Stag Parts manual, and couldn't find
anything like it. Can anyone help?

Many thanks,
