thanks again for your advice.

did it that way.

did it.

Current state is that I have all back in the car except the radiator, (have to fit an electr. fan).
Engine is already turning nicely with the starter. I've a nice spark (just turned of the fuel pump)

This gives the next question. Workshop Manual give 14 OT of pre LD20000 and 12 for later models for static timing. I checked BL part number which is 41366 on my distributor which indicates an pre LD20000 model ... nevertheless it a 74 with LD32xxx. I for sure can tell that it's still the original distributor.

I will start with 12 before, will se if he runs fine with 14 as well.

One further question. One of my DPO (as they usually say) had an oil cooler fitted WITHOUT Thermostat. Used over 2 yards ! of oil pipe ! I straighten that up.

Thermostat requires to be fitted correctly with main oil output. At the oil housing I have one exit at the top (for gauge, yes I know Mike's opinion on that) and two large for the cooler.

Is the left or the right output. I hate spilling my garage just to find that out.

btw. Manual gives a wide range of correct torque for the head bolts, something 65 .. 75. What do you recommend. I used just the middle.
