Alternator - Mk I
After changing my oil and filter today I started my Mk I Stag and the
ignition warning light stayed on. Thinking I must have disturbed some
connection to the alternator I had a good look at it from underneath and
discovered a white wire I hadn't noticed before coming from the loom near
the alternator but not connecting to anything. According to my manual there
should be a white wire connection betewwn the alternator and the charging
system relay. However I don't seem to have this relay or an alternator
control unit. I can only surmise that the original alternator has been
replaced and later models don't require the relay or control unit. Hence
this white wire is redundant. Does this sound reasonable? BTW I jiggled the
alternator connections and this seemed to solve my charging problem.
