Re: [ihc] Engine ID by pic
The 6-258 was available in the Scout through 1974. In 1975, it was
replaced by the 4-196 as the base engine (and the V-304 in the Light
Line). The 196 had been dropped for 1973. I've heard the dropping of
the 258 was due to AMC wanting all the engines they could build.
The 6-232 was introduced in mid-68 with the 69 models.
And I agree with the previous observations on the 401 engine--it was
first available for 1973 with some carryover into the 1974 models
although I don't think there were a lot of 74's with it..
