=Since you guys all seem to be "up" on this stuff, maybe one of you can tell

Tom,
I can tell you of an experience with impact adapters
when I was turning wrenches for a living years ago.
Boss wanted me to remove lugs from a large truck wheel/axle,
for what purpose I dont remember, and instructed me to use
his 3/4" impact when the 1/2" impact wouldnt budge them.
The shop supplied all the tools at this job.
We didnt have the proper 3/4" drive socket, and rather than the
shop buy an expensive socket, I was instructed to
use a 1/2" to 3/4" adapter and a 1/2" drive socket.
Badatatatataaaaaaaroooooom!
Twisted the adapter right off in the middle.
Fluke? Bad tool?
Had another new 1/2 to 3/4 adapter brought in with the daily parts order.
Snapped it on, cranked up the 3/4 impact, Badatatataataaaaarooooom!
Twisted it off, same place.
The shop bought the proper socket and it worked fine. :D
