RE: [ihc] Nissan S/C Off topic

And:

I was just telling a coworker who created and entire purchasing manual in
WORD and then made a single formatting change that ended up messing up the
entire document (she can't get it back to where it was) how much I have come
to dislike WORD because it tries to "anticipate" and "think" for me. I hate
it when I don't have the automatic capitalization turned off and I put a
"cc" at the bottom of a letter and it capitalizes the first 'C'. All logic
aside (literally) things can get too automated and/or too complex.

Of course, I'm creating this email in WORD. :-)

I remember back when Smokey Yunick was still writing for Hot Rod and
electronic engine controls were coming out he wrote, "No matter how neat it
might seem, if the average shade tree mechanic can't work on it on Sunday
afternoon, it's really not a good thing". I thought he was being sort of a
Luddite at the time. But I've since realized that he might have been
completely correct. Sure, a lot has been accomplished with electronic
engine controls relating to emissions, efficiency and driveability and I
don't completely rule them out. But, their sophistication and "second
guessing" logic is also the reason that friends of mine can't seem to get
their newer cars out of the shop for less than $1,000, even when it just
"needed a new water pump". Cost effectiveness went out the window with such
sophistication to the detriment of us all................unless you're
driving that old IH. Heck, you can get those running well enough to get
back to civilization with some duct tape and bailing wire. :-)
