What goes below the radio on a Scout 800 dash? Both my right hand drive
dash and my "new" left hand drive dash have a portion of the lower dash
under the radio bent up to a position that would probably support the radio
but there are also two holes on either side of the resulting opening and an
indentation that makes it looks like something belongs there. What belongs
there? I'm working on the layout for the dash to have modern amenities but
look like it was all from the factory and this space is a curiosity for me.

Hi Pete, just like John A. said, an optional map light can occupy that
opening. I like them, so I added one I got from a Scout 800 in a junk yard to my
RHD Scout 800.

I also added all StewartWarner Gauges to the Scout 800 dash, so I was able
to omit the voltage regulator for the original gauges. For Stewart Warner Fuel
Level Senders, I used the original I.H. Sender's mounting flanges, and
adapted them to the Stewart Warners. Worked out great.

In a few months I will also have a good right hand drive dash, pedal
assembly, steering box, and everything else needed to convert a Scout 800 to
right hand drive. If you think you may need the parts let me know.

That RHD pedal would come in handy for somebody wanting to convert a RHD
Scout with Borg Warner auto to manual. A lot easier than using rose bud and vise
to reshape a LHD pedal to RHD configuration. DAMHIK,IJK. Also used heat to
reshape T-18 shifter for RHD.

The RHD box you have would also be good for a Scout 80/800 4 cly conversion
to V8, if you want manual steering. You can mount the RHD steering gear box to
the ouside the left frame rail for LHD, which will give more room in engine
bay for V8.
