Re: [ihc] Mildew, moss, and buckaroos.

John:

I'm very envious. My work takes me from WV to the Carlin Trend from
time-to-time, and I really enjoy my time out there. If you've not been to
the Star Hotel for a meal, let me recommend it highly - 3 of the top 5 meals
of my life were consumed there. Served "family style", and every thing is
perfect. Last time I was there alone, they sat me with a nice family from
Logan, UT; a good time, I'll tell you.

I always take the highway trip to Winnemucca, and try to follow the
California Trail from Rye Patch Reservoir westward. Another interesting
side trip is to Unionville, where there's a historical marker regarding Mark
Twain's stay in the area. It's south from Rochester gold mine area between
Winnemucca and Lovelock. A bit of a trip from Elko, I guess.

I also enjoy the peace and quiet of the Ruby Lake wildlife area, on the
other side of the Rubies from you.

IHC Content: On a two-week stay in Elko, I had a compact four-wheel drive
reserved, and they gave it away. Hertz brought me a turbodiesel Excursion
for my use; I put 2500 miles on it in those two weeks, and darn it if the
thing didn't get nigh on to 18 mpg for the trip.
