Re: [ihc] Update: Pete's Choking!/carb advice
All,
I have not been following this thread, so I do not know what kind
of carb you have. However, if it is the IHC version of the Model 2300,
be sure to double-check that the gaskets fit. Fellow I know was just
recently trying to tune a carb on a Scout, could not get it to run right,
so he sent it to Howell Motorsports for a rebuild. There were two
problems that were pointed out to me by the owner of HM. One was that
the throttle plate was cracked on the shaft bore on the passenger side (I
have seen this problem myself three times on the IHC 2-bbl carbs), and
the gasket that goes between the throttle body and the throttle plate was
flat wrong. It had been part of a kit that was installed by the first
fellow or the prior owner, and several of the holes were blocked or gone,
and the ones over the fuel transfer slots were not located in the right
location and the bore sizes were too big, so that the fuel was being
sucked up over the edge of the plate instead of going through the slots
like they were supposed to. Howell Motorsports checked the gasket in the
kit they used, and it had the same problem. HM had the right gasket, and
put it in, and replaced the base plate, and put it together. Last I
heard, the Scout ran like Jack the Bear. Moral: Just because it is the
'right' kit for your carb does not mean is is right. Check all circuits
to make sure they go where they should, and check to make sure the
gaskets look right. If you have kitted a carb, and it still does not
work right, the problem could be the parts that came in the kit.
