I'd think a fresh 727 might be able to handle a stock
non turbo 6.9 or 7.3, if it's built right. Those are
tough old trannies!!!!

Howard, back in '02 or '01 there was a Scout w/ a GM
6.2(non turbo) a 6.5 would fit, it's really no bigger.
You can set a 6.5 up to turn 3900 RPMS, put a
mechanical pump & a turbo w/ wastegate(so you don't
melt it!!!!) and have a nice motor. Back that with a
5speed, and you'd have a Scout I'd be proud to borrow.
