Re: [ihc] Pete Got Shafted...

Pete
If you have the ends, many machine shops can replace the tube. I have a
friend who runs a machine shop here in Ohio and he regularly does this for
trucks. You can't believe what they can do to them .
He cuts the ends off close and machines the rest off of the ends, Orders new
tube to the correct diameter and welds them back on. They have never worried
about balance and haven't had a problem. I'm sure there are shops that could
balance them as well.
The cheapest would be to find one near you, Somebody on the list should
have a parts scout they could get one for you out of. I'm not sure how much
it would cost to ship. I have several parts scouts but it probably wouldn't
be cheap to ship it from Ohio.
Change of subject the best driveshaft my friends had to repair was out of a
large semitractor used for logging that the owner (owned it for years but
never drove it, his son was the regular driver) tried to move. He didn't
release the air brakes and thought the truck was "stuck" and found a low
enough gear to move it or at least the front half of the driveshaft moved.
Just twisted it all up.
Good luck
David
