[ihc] Re: ihc-digest V7 #419

Mac,
I am still trying to figure it out, but when I find the chassis number,
that will tell if it was a Navy or a Marine Corp truck. I find mostly
grey paint under the yellow, and grey inside the truck, which tells me
that it was a Navy vehicle, except I also find what looks to be residue
of primer and what may be green paint, which may indicate a Marine rig.
The first coat of yellow paint may have been applied by the Navy if the
truck was a flightline truck, to enhance visibility, according to one of
the fellows on the Military Vehicle list that I joined recently. Someone
repainted it yellow in the not too distant past (at least not long before
it was abandoned at the Powerland), judging by the yellow paint on the
tires. I cannot tell if the blue wheels were part of the original yellow
paint job, or was done by someone at the Powerland to make it less of an
eyesore. We have no plans of yet, but may repaint it its original color
someday. It has some bad rust spots on the underside of the bed in front
which are not visible to the average person, and the windshield needs to
be rebuilt or possibly replaced if the frame is rusted too badly.
Considering what windshield frames of that age look like in this rainy
climate, it is not that bad, but it may be too far gone to seal when we
put new glass in it, which it needs.
We will take some pics, and send them to you when after the show. We may
take some when we go down to work on it in a couple weeks. That will
probably be Jack Campbell, since he is more of a photographer than I am.

thank you very much. i actually put some thought into this one. on my
own
IH pages, i don't use packground graphics or fancy print or anything like
that. being a simplistic sort of fellow when it comes to the web, i just
don't want to put the work in.

but with this one... it's not really for me, or about me. so i thought
maybe i could spruce up the page a bit and make it more attractive. the
basic colours on black background may work okay for me, but maybe not for
everyone else. then i thought some more... and i decided it would be
best
not to detract from the truck itself. that's a beautiful truck in
remarkable shape especially considering its age and the era from which it
hails (not many left from those years, are there?). the images and the
truck speak for themselves, so i felt it best to leave them as they are.

and Colin... if/when you get some more pictures of that truck,
especially
in use during the roundup, send 'em my way and i'll stick 'em up there
with
the others. if you have any captions or descriptions or anything you
want
included with the pictures, i'll put those up too.
