I was told by a fellow at an exhaust shop about 10 years ago that if you
have headers, there is a heat riser valve that is available that bolts on
the end of the collector, to help the engine warm up faster.  Valve size
depends on header size.  I was going to get one, but never had the spare
change.  For those in very cold climes, I would think that would be
almost mandatory to prevent carb icing and maintain atomization and
proper distribution.  That was supposed to be one of the reasons heat
risers were designed in the first place.  At least you wouldn't have to
stand out behind your rig holding the tailpipe in the snow.  :-)

Also, there won't be any flow through this passage unless the heat riser
works on a stock exhaust or unless you hold your hand over one exhaust in
a
header system.
