[ihc] RHD power steering questions



I've asked about this before, but I figure I'll kick it back out here
one more time.

I've got a '74 RHD Scout (used daily for mail delivery) that was
converted to RHD using a LHD power steering box mounted inside the
frame.  This necessitated the use of a shortened draglink.  The pump is
leaking slightly (very slightly, it requires topping off every 2 weeks)
but there is a vibration when turning to the right.  It only happens
some of the time, not all of the time.  My mechanic thinks it's
something in the system, but isn't sure what.  He hopes it's not the
gearbox.  (And everything was freshly lubed a couple of weeks ago.)

This is interesting because a guy posts there about having used a LHD
Travellall box in his Scout.  I've heard that there is a direct bolt-in
LHD box from a Travellall, but never got any better info than that. 
I've e-mailed this guy asking for any details, but haven't heard back
yet.  Out of curiosity, is the Travellall box heavier duty than the
Scout box, or about the same.

Anyways, what is causing the noise when turning to the right?  I would
guess the box (if it was the pump, it should happen when turning right
or left) but I had a thought and wanted to run it by you.  Apparently,
there are RHD and LHD draglinks.  Is it possible that the PO used a LHD
draglink on my RHD setup, and THAT is causing the noise?  I know it's a
longshot, but let me know your take on it.  Also, how would I tell if
the draglink is RHD or LHD?

If I can't get this figured out, it's back to manual steering.  Unless I
can find info on the power-assisted ram setup I've seen mentioned and
can adapt it to my truck's manual setup.
