The 6 on 7.25 pattern used by IH through 68 is also found on dodge power
wagons until about 61. The axles for the power wagon are a bolt on swap to
the IH. There's a guy in my town that has a power wagon equipped in this
way. He said he had to make no mods at all. It may be that this was no
accident, as there are several similarities between the two, and it appears
as though there was more than a little bit of collaboration, or perhaps one
of the two makers used something that was already available because it met
the spec, and tooling cost returns would have been substantially lower when
negotiating price.
