I think there's a safety switch inside the door to keep the window motor
from engaging when it's not aligned. There could be a bad connection at the
key switch. Either could be defective or may have worked loose. Also, quite
often, bad grounds will cause the problem. If the window works when directly
powered, lube it up and find the open circuit. These units are simply too
hard to find to dismiss so easily.
