Thanks for the info!

Yes, I know that the '68's did not have PB, but my question was whether or not
I had the system from the '77 mounted in there or not.  Again, did not know if
there were discs without boosters, or even '77's without boosters, which is
where this whole line of questioning came from.

I did NOT know that diesels had poor vacuum possibilities!  Thanks so much for
that info!!!  I had always assumed that with the added compression, when all
of that exhaust went out it might make for even stronger vacuum power from the
engine.  So, I WILL check the BB forums!  This was the first combination of
these years I had heard of, so didn't know if anyone had confronted these
problems before.  Thus, started sniffing around on these lists rather than
looking there first.

I will now check the BB and see what I can come up with!

  As others have stated the 68 body did not have power brakes and due to a
lack of a good vacuum
  source on the Sd33 some Dieseler's have gone to hydro boost which is driven
from the the power
  steering power and much smaller in size making it easy to fit in small
places. So although you may have
  some other brake system problems it will never work that well without some
kind of boost.
  Here's the catch 22 of the current vacuum system, the pump on the back of
the alternator is
  ok when it's in good working order but the alternator has a very small
output (37 amps) and due
  to the pulley setup with power steering the belts often slip. So if your not
running A/C you
  can mount a much bigger Alternator on the other side of the engine and mount
power steering pump
  so it's in a better setup. Then you can either run an electric vacuum pump
or a hydro boost.

issues have been covered.
