[ihc] Re: Brake rotors

I must admit, you've lost me on this one too... what do the backing plates
have to do with hardfacing the drums?

-Ryan
Not exactly relevant to any of this discussion
about axles, drums, etc. but .....

I bought slotted rotors for my Dodge truck and
I'm going to get slotted rotors for my Terra as
soon as I accumulate some money for that purpose.

Seem to work very well and should not be nearly as susceptible to warpage.

Interesting that if you put them on in one
direction the brakes become VERY aggressive
adding to short pad life. Put them on the other
way, and they are pretty much normal rotors in
every respect except for heat dispersion.

Some of you like Greg will smirk at my naiveti
when I tell you that I had envisioned going out
to the Dodge, pulling the wheel, removing the
caliper, removing the rotor, and slipping a new
rotor on. Hmmm, it isn't like that at all on
this front axle. Big job.

I was pursuing cross drilled rotors, but was told
by the rotor guys that the slotted are actually
better in severe braking situations. I never
asked why.

Those damn rotors were so heavy I could barely
lift the two of them, much less carry them
around. I'm glad that job is done.
