[ihc] anybody have an options list for 1966?
as part of the discussion of IH Corporate axles recently, i've got a couple
questions.
the axle under my B122 is not the original. when i could not replace the
drums on the original RA15 axle (14" brake drums), i scrapped the axle for
the much larger and heavier axle from a 1966 1500A, which at that time still
had drums available. the new axle has 15" brakes, a larger pumpkin, but the
same six on seven and a quarter lug pattern that the old RA15 had (nearly
every other axle of this size or on a truck of this size that i've seen or
heard about has the five on eight or six on eight and three quarters lug
pattern).
so here are the facts/evidences: the B140 that Joel B recently bought and
then sold to Ken H (i think i got the last initial right) has what appears
to be the same rear axle as what i have, which the lineset for that truck
lists as an RA20. that truck also has what the lineset calls an FA50 for
the front axle, which i have verified in the B series operator's manual to
indeed be an FA50. that rear axle, though, according to the manual, cannot
be an RA20, since the RA20 supposedly shares a pumpkin with the RA15, which
is smaller than the FA50, which has the same size pumpkin as the rear axles
in the B140 and my B122. confused yet?
the questions: my axle came from a 1966 1500A which i have since scrapped.
does anybody have a parts or options or price list for that year of trucks?
i'd like to know exactly what i've got, and i'm not getting very reassuring
answers about it. the B series operator's manual says that the rear axle to
match an FA50 is an RA30, but the RA30s that other Digesters have seem to be
larger than this. by a long shot. since i cannot positively identify the B
series axles, i thought i would try to identify the 1966 series axles
instead, and at least positively identify what *I* have, if not what that
B140 has.
can anybody out there send me this information? it's not urgent or
anything, i'm just curious to know what these things are. let me know, on
or off list, as it pleases you. thank you.
