Well, for a normal person, probably every 6 months, but if you are
using it as a work surface every day possibly every 3 months.  In the
end, I would probably do it twice as often as recommended by the
protectant manufacturer for your use.

I can't say that I have ever done this so I don't have a
recommendation, but if it works out good for you, I may follow. I
would recommend asking a car upholstery place that does leather
steering wheels what they use. I bet they use a nice humidity
resistant adhesive.
