A number of companies make bolt on axle trusses. I've seen them advertised in 
various mags over the years. I was looking through my Con-Ferr catalogue the 
other day, and they have them in there. The one design looks like you can 
pre-load tha axle by adjusting a couple of nuts. You might want to get their 
catalogue for ideas.
