Neutral Safety Switch Issues
Okay, I apologize if you guys have gotten this question already-I have
either been having server problems, or else this hasn't come through or
been answered yet.
I still have start problems with my 1974 100 series, 2WD, 392, AT WM. I
have adjusted the transmission linkage, and this does not appear to be
the problem. This may have been exacerbating the problem before, but
the tranny problem is fixed and the starting problem remains.
Only when the engine is hot is this a problem. However, when driving to
the gas station, or the grocery, etc, it is a pain in the ass to have to
pop the hood and jump start the thing using a wire run directly to the
starter.
I have bought a replacement neutral safety switch that does not look
like the one that is currently in there. Does anyone have a parts
number for this switch. The one I have is a Niehoff AL133P. Also has
Gen: NS36091, and SMP: NS-11 on the box top (not to be confused with the
old Alex Chilton band).
Also, I looked on the tranny and this switch appears to be low on the
transmission on the driver's side, just above the pan. Am I indeed
looking in the right location? And if so, does anyone have a good trick
for actually accessing this switch. The way mine is set up, the body
sits very low on the frame, and there is no way to get a wrench on it
from underneath. Do I have to drop the tranny to make this switch (of
switches)? Can it be accessed from the inside-after removing the floor
mats, carpet, and some kind of tranny tunnel cover? If I try to access
it through the interior this way, is it any easier to get at? It
doesn't look like there is much room from there either. If I drop the
pan, there would be room to get a wrench on it from the under side, but
was not planning on changing all of the tranny fluid at the moment-nor
of disposing of the old tranny fluid.
Any help/advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I am on
summer break and am hoping to go on a couple of little trips, but want
to fix all of the trucks before I will allow myself to play-and my break
is only three weeks. I would very much like to get this problem
resolved.
And to those of you that have been discussing buying this thing from me,
I am planning on having it fixed before we make a deal!!! Don't think I
will sell you a built-in problem! I hate that!!!
Thanks!
Michael
