Trans Trouble?
For all you Auto Trans specialists out there. I have been experiencing
shifting trouble with my Scout II. 345/727. It shifts through the gears
too quickly and winds up in 3rd gear way before it should. This
overloads the engine and makes it pull way more than it should. I have
adjusted the adjustment both ways to no avail. When I manually shift
from 1st to 2nd under a fairly good load it seems to slip badly and the
RPMs come up by about 1000 or so. It takes from 2 to 5 seconds for the
upshift to complete. It is obvioulsy slipping internally and wearing
something out. I have read the IHC manual and have come up with no
solution other than adjustment and that has made very little, if any,
difference. Once it is in 3rd gear I have noticed no slippage under any
condition. At cold startup, it will not fully engage into 1st or reverse
for a few moments. Usually I have to run it through reverse and drive to
get it moving. If I just put it in gear and try to move, it slips badly
for a few seconds and then engages.
HELP!
