Rust converter is an acid. When applied to rust the rust becomes dark (almost black) and hard. It seems to be neutralized by the acid. I have seen the stuff at Wal-Mart but I got mine from a body shop supply store, it's called Rust Mort and when you use it(brush it on) you GOTTA have eye and skin protection. Rik
