Brake fixed

I think I fixed my brake problem. I haven't tested it yet because I
have half my drivers side floor torn up. When I first did the
passenger side brakes I couldn't get the shoes to seat tightly around
the backing plate like they should. It was almost like one shoe was out
of round. I didn't want to use my old drum because I thought it might be
warped from all I did trying to get it off. So, I dug around in my
garage for my 'spare' set off my parts truck. I found two drums sitting
right out in front and threw one of those on. I had to 'encourage' the
drum on because of that one shoe. When I took it for a test drive I
couldn't shift out of @nd because the shoes were dragging so bad that
when I'd shift into third the brakes would almost stop the truck! Then
this hideous screeching noise started emanating from that wheel. I got
home as fast as I could and when I stopped there was smoke coming from
the drum. Well, I pulled it back open today and replaced the top
springs, easy job, but; still didn't fix the problem. So, I decided that
the adjuster spring isn't pulling the shoe down tight enough. I go to
NAPA for a new adjuster link and spring. The link they had, the spring
we couldn't find anywhere! After a while we gave up and I decided to try
my luck at Pep Boys. (You know the old saying, even a blind squirrel
finds a nut once in a while.) Well, they were slow in there so the kid
at the counter actually started looking through boxes. We didn't find a
spring that was an 'exact' match, but when I finally got it on it seems
to have solved the problem. So, now I put that 'other' drum on. As I
put it on I realise it looks awfully "new". Off it comes and I compare
it to the old one and find this one is about 1/4 - 1/2" thicker! This
drum and the backing plate had been rubbing against each other and that
was what was rubbing! I put the old drum on and as soon as I figure
something out with my floor I can test it out. So much for a simple
brake job!
