Oil Filter Mounting Bracket

Al,

John L was correct about making sure the back of the bracket is flat, but I
do not agree with using any gasket compound on the gasket.

I managed to blow the gasket out on my 304.  I had put Permatex on both
sides.  Luckily I didn't fry the engine.
But I did get a nice job of IH rust proofing all over the side of the
engine <bg>.


After that, I made sure the back was flat.  Used a sheet of fine emery
cloth on a flat surface.  Keep working on it until you can see that the
entire back of the bracket is being "sanded".

Installed the bracket with a dry gasket.  I cut one out of my trusty roll
of gasket paper.

Torqued it to spec and has been dry ever since.
