flickering lights

Digesters,
I know this has been discussed over and over, but I don't recall ever
finding a definite answer. The amp guage on my 66 800 and 64 C1100 both
jump around from discharge to charge. It semms to vary by rpm, sometimes
it is nice and steady. I can live with that, the problem is the lights
flicker along with it. Both vehicles have stock delco charging systems
with external regulators. Alternators and regulators have been replaced.
Any ideas? Would a one wire alternator from Summit eliminate this
trouble?
The hard starting after sitting could be as simple as a cracked fuel
line, before the fuel pump. I have a travelall that did this and a Fiat
X1/9 along time ago that did also.
