Al's problem

Al,
How do you know that you have real power at the solenoid terminal?
(for example) If you are using a voltmeter or some very load device
to test for power there, you could easily be mislead as to what
happens when you have a high drain device like your headlights trying
to pull power through the bad connection. I seem to be the only person
who has experienced this, but a loose nut on the big terminal on the
solenoid can cause power failure everywhere else. Clean the
connections and tighten that nut. I have had 4 or 5
running-down-the-road-and-the-engine-dies experiences, that turned out
to be that nut. Also check the battery terminals.
Good luck,
John H.

Guys: Jiggled the bulkhead connectors looked for obvious burned
wires,
nothing. Ignition switch is in Collum (sp) so no Fusible link by it
that I know about. I don't understand why everything is out. That
seems
like battery but the cables and the battery all have power flowing to
them. Anybody got any helpfull hints? I have a wiring diagram in a 78
Shop Manual but some of these wires have been spliced and rerouted in
28
years. Centech or Painless wiring might be my only hope. TIA

Al
