Re: Trans Cooler

At a recent NATO press briefing, "Tony Urban" <turban@domain.elided> was
heard threatening Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic...

>My reason for asking is because I've developed some troublesome fluid leaks
>that appear to be originating from the cooler. Can I easily remove it? Are
>there holes to plug in the transmission after removal? Leave it?

Tony,

A transmission cooler is normally desirable as cooler fluid helps extend the
life of an automatic transmission substantially, but you can live without it
of you have to. Can't you just fix the leaks?

If you remove it, you will need to make sure the fluid line is still routed
through the cooling coil hidden inside the driver's side of the radiator. If
that's the case, you would simply remove the cooler and connect the lines
together where the cooler once was. If the line is not routed through the
radiator, you'll need to plumb it in, because the transmission fluid *must* be
cooled in some way or the transmission won't last long.

John L.
