Having installd two, let me tell you that you cannot install one incorrectly. 
The module is mounted where the points were. There is an adjustment for air 
gap between the module and the magnets. That could be off. I have given some 
thought about the phasing thing, and the fact that I have to rotate my 
distributor when I switch between the points and the Pertronix.

I think the phasing difference between points and Pertronix has to do with 
the fact that the points actually fire the spark on the ramp of the lobe on 
the distributor shaft cam, whereas the Petronix fires right at the top of the 
lobe. (Assuming you didn't rotate the distributor) I would assume that 
Pertronix made the module to be in the same place (directly across from the 
magnet), that would make the rubbing block of the points would sit (at the 
high point of the lobe of the distributor), with the distributor housing in 
the exact same position. Does any of this make sense?
