Thoroughly Modern Millie again - ABS

Hmmm, I was looking at my '73 TA/WM owner's manual and, much to my surprise,
it has a section on the ABS (rear-only) brakes.

I was somehow under the impression that they were only available in '75.
But in any case... has anybody actually even seen one of these beasts? It
would only be on a 1/2t 4x2 (both 1010 and 1110, though). It may only have
been on the TA since the p/ups would see a much greater variation in weight
over the rear axle- if that made any difference. The WM sales brochure
doesn't mention it. I'm sure they didn't sell many trucks so equipped,
whatever the case.

And p'bly those eventually got disabled. In fact, the section in the shop
manual tells you how- suspiciously enough. It certainly seems really early
for a reliable application of the technology... I don't think Ford had it
until mid or later '80s (???). Maybe someone has one and doesn't even know.
I think there is a circuit board behind the glove compartment- anybody
notice anything weird while looking for the LST in a junkyard truck?

But I could certainly get a kick out of pulling up next to a Blackwood with
a '74 loaded WM with coil IFS, front disks and ABS and pull out the stuff
that shows it as all factory <bg>. And, unlike him, at least I my
stupid-looking wood(grain) comes off!
