When my "gold box" failed, it didn't completely go. I couldn't get the Scout
to run, but it would fire and then die. When I checked for spark, there was
one. Turned out to be too weak I guess. The thing would start from full
voltage application, but die when the key went to run, because of the lower
voltate and resultant spark.

I too used to beleive that electronic ignitions either worked or didn't with
nothing in between. Then mine had to go and ruin that simplistic thought.
