Thanks for your advice, everyone.

I did change the diff oil per the advice of the tranny guy who installed the
unit for me, after 1000 miles.  I did add the LS additive, but maybe I'll
add some more just in case.  To clarify, this wasn't the kind of
'chattering' you hear (had this in another unit) but actual noise coming
from the tires, like they were rubbing on something, perhaps dragging on the
ground as they were being held up by the unit not  disengaging properly.
The front end is an open D30 that leaks a bit, but is always kept at the
proper level (I fill the sucker every two weeks or so).  Thanks again.
