The oil pressure is read before it reaches the lifters or bearings.
Remember after the oil passes through the bearings (main or cam) and the
lifters. It no longer has pressure it mostly just falls into the oil pan.
Without the resistance of oil passing through the small clearances of the
bearings and the lifters oil pressure would only exist at the pump.
