LEGISLATIVE ALERT
New York Bills Would Limit Suspension/Tire Alterations on "Pickup
Trucks"

Attention all 4x4 clubs and vehicle enthusiasts in New York. Two bills
(S.B. 3096, A.B. 5740) have been introduced in the New York legislature
that would severely limit vehicle suspension, body lift and wheel/tire
alterations on pickup trucks. Specifically, S.B. 3096 and A.B. 5740
would ban pickups whose bumpers are elevated more than 3 inches over the
original manufactured bumper design. Your vehicle could be next!
We Urge You to Contact Your State Legislators to Oppose These Bills
S.B. 3096/A.B. 5740 would ban reasonably altered pickups due to
overstated concerns with bumper mismatch.
S.B. 3096/A.B. 5740 discriminates against hobbyists and aftermarket
parts makers by leaving it solely to the vehicle manufacturers to choose
bumper heights.
S.B. 3096/A.B. 5740 would force owners of modified pickups to spend
large sums of money to reinstall original components.
S.B. 3096/A.B. 5740 would ban useful alterations that provide adequate
clearance for on/off road capability and accommodate heavy loads, larger
tires, improved suspension and water-fording capability.
This bill tramples on the rights of all 4x4 vehicle enthusiasts in New
York. Contact the Senate and Assembly Transportation Committee members
(see attached list) and your own state legislators immediately to oppose
this legislation. If you need assistance in determining who your
legislators are, please contact the New York State Legislature's General
Information Line at 518/455-2800 or 518/455-4100. This information can
