Dan - every time I've pulled my axle shafts they've come out easily once
I removed the 4 backing plate bolts. Yank on the drum to get it off,
and just tug gently on the axle shaft to pull it.
Recall that the 78/79/80 (or there about) didn't have an inner grease
seal...
My Scouts all use a tapered/cone bearing. It goes flange --> backing
plate --> outer grease seal --> bearing --> inner seal. The inner seal
is a hard "washer".
Dunno what it all means, just.. that's what I have.
