Re: Rear Drums

Brad-

Quite honestly, you are most likely just hanging up on the ridges in the
drums themselves, and the shoes are probably still in the grooves, though
the springs are backed off. If the drums have "grooved", it's possible
that the shoes have grooved in at a slight angle, leaving them trapped
under a little bit of a "lip". The last time I changed the ones on my '68
T'all I had this problem. Had to pull and pry and finally get the brakes
loose enough that I could pry them open enough to have my biddy stick a
screwdriver in and "push" the edge of the shoes toward the middle of the
hub/away from the drum. Took us about 45 minutes with both of us working
on it to get the last drum off! Unfortunately, this probably means that
your drums are grooved deep enough to prevent them from being turned.
Depending upon what size drums you have, this can be a problem, as one
size is very difficult to get!
Anyway, just throw new shoes on and put it back on and remember how you
got it off this time, as you will have to pay particular attention to it
from now on if it is deeply grooved-you don't want to let it wear ,uch
more!
