Dans Engine Problems
I agree with someone in last digest. The oil passages are
clogged. That's why the lifters are clattering, cause
they're not getting any oil. The oil burning is coming from
around the valve guides. All the oil is on top of the heads
and not draining back to the bottom. It eventually drains
back down, so that you have good pressure at start up, but
after it runs a few minutes, the oil pan is pumped dry. I
believe a lot of that could be remedied by pulling the valve
covers and running a small wire brush down through the oil
passages. But if there's sand in there, it's going to clog
up the lifters and not to mention all the other damage it's
probably already done to any parts with close tolerances.
