RE: Bell housing leak
Kevin,
If I didn't know better, I would think that your wife was driving my Scout!
I have tried a couple things trying to avoid replacing the rear main seal,
but I think I'm going to have to do it anyway. I replaced the oil pan
gasket, doubting but hoping that this would be the problem. It wasn't.
While I had the inspection plate off the bell housing, I was able to confirm
that the oil was indeed motor oil and not gear oil from the trans. Next
step was to replace the PCV valve (clogged valve = pressurized crank case =
(?) force oil out through seal? No luck again, as expected. So, soon I
will doing my rear main seal. Yahoo.

I've never torn down an engine or transmission like a lo of you out
there have so I'm still kind of green when it comes to
auto-mechanics...My wife was running the engine on the Scout the other
day and I noticed there was oil leaking from the bell housing. I was
leaking about 3 drops per minute so after about 20 minutes of running it
there was a pretty good sized puddle underneath. What should I be
looking for??
