I haven't yet, but it seems like an excellent idea which I was tossing around for a while.  Especially after my water pump went.  It seems like the pump would last a lot longer without the weight of the fan on it.  Plus, I think it would help fuel consumption over a solid fan.  With a toggle switch to manually override it you'd have a good setup for deep water crossings too.
