Thermostat results

Scouters,

The results from the RobertShaw Thermostat is in.

1- Warms up quicker, old one probably opened too soon.

2- No longer overheats at idle.

Last Sat I left it Idle for over an hour in the driveway while getting
ready for the trip to Columbia. Temp stayed dead steady, same place as
driving. Hoo Ray!! With the Stant style it had installed, it would
have boiled itself bone dry in an hour. BTW, I have the radiator 60%
covered, still no overheat at idle.

The trip to Columbia was interesting. 250 mi round trip west from St.
Louis on I-70. Also included 10 mi of unplowed country roads. Wow!!!!
does this thing go in snow. I'm amazed! The trip up was mostly on
snowpack and uneventful. On the way back, I forgot about Dead-Man's
Curve just west of Warrenton. 65 mph on a corner that is uncomfortable
at 65 in dry conditions. Bingo!!! **black ice** Weeeee Hooooooo.
Ever been sideways in a Scout at 60 mph. With no roll cage yet!?!?!?!?!
I had some help on that one, I'm not that good a driver.

BTW I love the shift-on-the-fly four wheel drive technology of the
Scout. It really works, if you have the hubs locked. Absolutely
silent. Hard to shift out on dry pavement though.

Along the trip I saw, by actual count, 7 tractor trailer rigs in the
ditch, 4 or 5 cars in the ditch, upside down, etc. Misc abandoned cars
from the day before, and one Wrangler. Looked new. Judging from the
debris on the highway, was a kid going back to school in Columbia.
Didn't make it. The ambulance was headed eastbound as was I. I
followed it for some time. The ambulance driver would not exceed 30 mph
on the Interstate siren & lights going. When I was stopped at the
accident site I let out the clutch suddenly to see what would happen.
Nothing, the tires were moving but the Scout wasn't. ***seriously
slick***

Be careful during/after a snow/freezing rain/hailstorm.

My daughter was heading from St. Louis to Fayettville Ark on I-44 (Route
66). She was blown off the road by a tractor/trailer passing in icy
conditions. She's fine, but she has to buy another car.

Steve
