Danny,
That fuel filter hiding behind the AC may very well be your problem and
should be replaced before investing in a new fuel pump. If you do end up
getting a new pump, you'll need to replace that filter anyway.

Just by way of blabbing a little more, I use two fuel filters, one just
out of the tank and one just before the carb (actually fuel injection
body). The one just past the tank has always been the one to get really
full of crap, and is very easy to change, and to check on as it has the
glass surrounding the filter element and you can see how dirty the filter
is. I've always (should watch the use of absolutes, but they sound so
good when I misuse them) had a fascination with the inline filters with
the glass body so you can watch the fuel flow, but they aren't able to be
used with the extremely high fuel pressures that are used on modern fuel
injection vehicles. Fortunately, my Holley Pro-jection maintains and
requires a pressure of 15 lbs. or less, so the glass body filters work
great. Please note that I just said that I really like these filters, not
that they were particularly good. I have no idea how well they filter,
except they do accumulate a lot of crap in them.

Well, that was quite a bit about nothing. Maybe you guys were better off
when I wasn't around. Oh well, I'm leaving for the desert pretty soon, so
I have to get my licks in while I'm here.

I sure like you guys, even those of you I've actually met. (grin)

Regards,

John H.
