trailer brakes

There is at least one more type of electronic brake controller.  They 
get a signal from the tow vehicle brake light circuit and vary the output
amperage based on the time that the brakes are on.  There are controls to 
delay and limit the maximum signal out to the trailer brakes.

I got the "Powerstop" controller from JC Whitney.
