Doug,
My '80 w/'74 345 has (had) an egr setup 'til it fell off doing about 70 on the highway, the exhaust suddenly got loud.....thought it was gonna explode.  Once I knew what it was, I kept driving, need to plug it though, too loud.

Oh yah, 
My '77 never had one, any engine w/air pump had EGR, no pump no EGR.......
