Auto choke pt. 2

I assume the manual choke kit just does away with that vacuum dashpot, if I
know the one your asking about- Pity.

Although it's quite possibly an emissions device, it's a good 'un. When
vaccum is low (the throttle is pressed in), it opens the choke butterfly
quite a bit, then returns it to the temperature-determined position when you
take your foot back off the gas.

It wouldn't be able to push back against the cable of a manual choke, but if
it was spring-connected in some way it might work.

The reason I like it so much is, when I turn left out of my driveway I'm
immediately presented with something like a "V." That is, I go 1/2 mi.
downhill and then about the same uphill, at a fairly steep angle. It
flattens out a bit and hits a stop sign.

Well, if the choke is in it's warmup position, there's no way the 392 can
suck enough air to drag that T/E monster up the hill at anywhere near the
speed limit. So I open the choke up.

But if I forget to put it back on, I stall at the stop sign- the steep
downhill precludes any warming of the engine at all. Happens often enough,
as I have a tendency to wool-gather.

No big deal, it's just annoying. Also, again based on the ambient
temperature, I have to hunt around for the right choke setting.

The dashpot opens up the butterfly for me, and never forgets to put the
choke back to the proper position after I crest the hill.

Hmm, maybe I've talked myself into an auto choke conversion??? Naw, that
would be like, work. OR I could just sit in the truck until it's warmed up
enough to get the choke into the middle postion- a whole minute or two.
Yeah, like I have that kind of patience.
