More on 800 power steering conversion parts

As to the conversion to PS on 800's. I haven't seen the Oct '96 Binder
Bulletin photos of the conversion, but I notice the FAQ mentions " Power
steering gear box to steering column shaft from 1968-1972 IH Pickup or
Travelall". I assume that means the actual steering column?

On my '67 800, the stock column was a solid tube all the way from the
steering wheel down to the manual steering box. When I positioned the new
Scout II power steering gear box so the pitman arm would clear the front
spring the new box wasn't in line with the original column. I found a
"short" column off a '70 800 that ended at the firewall. Two steering
u-joints (from a speed shop) and a piece of the original steering shaft
completed the connection from the column to the box.

I wonder if the "short" column from a late 800 might be easier to find
than the '68-72 Pu or Travellal version mentioned in the FAQ? Of course,
if the 800 being converted already had the "short" column then there isn't
a problem. I'm not sure which years had the "short" column, '67's didn't,
I know that.

Doug, wishing I'd known about the BB & FAQ when I did my conversion
