*My 69 1200D has a GVW of 7500lbs on the plate.  Are you sure it was a 1200?

My '69 1200 4X4 truck is also rated at 7500 lbs. That's with the heavy duty springs. It may have been rated conservatively I'm not sure.  I think they include the wheels and tires in the rating. The stock tires on mine were really small which may explain it being low.  Of course IH way underated their towing capacity also. Mine pulls a lot more than it is "suppossed" to.
