Art's vapor lock
I looked up vapor lock after my problem on the
"Click and Clack" web page and they claimed (I'm not
sure I believe them) that this was a big reason the fuel pumps
eventually migrated to inside the tank... that is, even electric
in-lines weren't immune.
I had thought it was just cheaper to make an immersion high-pressure EFI pump than an inline, but I've never
seen anything to back my theory up, so maybe they're
right.
In any case, I think you have a pretty marginal pump. The
electrics for carb applications aren't that expensive, I'd get
another one.
Also, did you put a filter between your tank an the pump?
If you didn't, they get pretty abused by even a tiny amount
of grit. Speaking from experience, they'll run for a while, but
when they heat up enough for the metal to expand a bit,
the scarred surfaces start to seize.
